Single spin asymmetries in elastic electron-nucleon scattering
نویسندگان
چکیده
We discuss the target and beam normal spin asymmetries in elastic electron-nucleon scattering which depend on the imaginary part of two-photon exchange processes between electron and nucleon. In particular, we estimate these transverse spin asymmetries for beam energies below 2 GeV, where the twophoton exchange process is dominated from the resonance contribution to the doubly virtual Compton scattering tensor on the nucleon. Nucleon Compton Scattering with Two Space–like Photons
We calculated two–photon exchange effects for elastic electron–proton scattering at high momentum transfers. The corresponding nucleon Compton amplitude is defined by two space–like virtual photons that appear to have significant virtualities. We make predictions for a) a single–spin beam asymmetry, and b) a single–spin target asymmetry or recoil proton polarization caused by an unpolarized ele...
متن کاملSpin dependence of the scattering of protons from halo nuclei.
The optical potential and observables for protonHe elastic scattering are studied within the single scattering approximation to the Kerman, McManus, and Thaler (KMT) multiple scattering expansion. Calculations are performed for protonHe elastic scattering at 72 MeV/nucleon, for which there are available experimental data, and also at 200 MeV/nucleon incident energy. It is shown that the calcula...
متن کاملSummary of Physics Prospects for Polarized Nucleon - Nucleon Scattering at HERA - ~ N ⋆
The physics scope of polarized nucleon–nucleon collisions originating from an internal polarized target in the HERA proton beam is summarized. Based on 240 pb −1 integrated luminosity at 40 GeV c.m. energy, statistical sensitivities are given over a wide (x F , p T)–range for a variety of inclusive and exclusive final states. By measuring single spin asymmetries unique information can be obtain...
متن کاملSingle Spin Asymmetries on a Transversely Polarised Proton Target at Compass
COMPASS is a running fixed-target experiment at the CERN SPS with a rich physics program focused on nucleon spin structure and on hadron spectroscopy. One of the main goals of the spin program is the measurement of the transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive DIS off transversely polarised nucleons. In the years 2002, 2003 and 2004 data have been taken using a 160 GeV /c naturally polarised µ ...

The single spin asymmetries for a longitudinally polarized lepton beam or a longitudinally polarized nucleon target in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering are twist-3 observables. We study these asymmetries in a simple diquark spectator model of the nucleon. Analogous to the case of transverse target polarization, non-vanishing asymmetries are generated by gluon exchange between the struck...
